Turkish Airlines (THY) presented an award to Dr. Ahmet Savaşan, President of the Cyprus Health Tourism Council, for his pioneering contributions to the diversification of tourism in Northern Cyprus.
Speaking at the opening of the gala where THY gave awards to tourism professionals who achieved success in various categories, Dr. Ahmet Savaşan emphasized that the newly established government should act in harmony with Turkey and solve the problems in tourism on the one hand, and on the other hand, start the digital transformation process to achieve sustainability in tourism.

Pointing out that the TRNC's imports are 1.778 billion USD, exports are 105 million USD and foreign trade deficit is 1.672 billion USD, Savaşan said that the highest income in the country is obtained from tourism with 865 million USD, followed by higher education with 765 million USD.

Kuzey Kıbrıs’a gelen turist sayısında Şubat sonu itibarı ile %10.3, turistik tesislerde konaklayan kişi sayısında %5.8, otel doluluklarında ise %19.9 oranında düşüş yaşandığını ifade eden Savaşan, hükümetin Türkiye’nin desteğini alması ve sektörle işbirliğini geliştirmesi halinde turizmde ciddi bir gerilemenin yaşanmasının önüne geçilebileceğini söyledi.

Pointing out that the last stop in the history of societies' economic production models is defined as the fourth industrial revolution, Industry 4.0, Savaşan said that the 4.0 world has changed the way of doing business not only in industry but in all sectors. Stating that if the current problems are solved as soon as possible and the 4.0 revolution is initiated, an institutionalized, branded, high value-added and sustainable tourism will be possible, Savaşan pointed out that a real success story is needed in tourism.
